Hi All! I just discovered a new ready-to-wear fashion brand called A Ruby. They design chic and effortless pieces that are staple items for your closet such as sleek leggings and the classic white button-up shirt. I had the opportunity to interview the founder and designer, Avra Myers. She’s been working in the fashion industry for the past 30 years and a Club Monaco veteran. Read on to learn about Avra’s style, fashion career, and advice on confidence.
Who is Avra Myers?
By day I am a designer for A Ruby, creating simple, chic items every woman wants and needs in her wardrobe. By night I am a mother and partner who loves the balance of an easy, Marina Bay lifestyle.
How do you describe your style?
My style is classic, with an edge of hippie, moto and feminine thrown into the mix.
At what point in your life did you start to own your style?
I grew up in the 70’s, so when I was about 13 I started embroidering my jeans and weaving beaded bracelets.
Describe a challenge you overcame early on in your fashion career. What happened and how did you overcome it?
My first job in fashion was as an assistant designer at Alfred Sung. Initially every day was a challenge, working in a dynamic, competitive environment. Early on I learned to seek out those people who were willing to mentor me and hope that one day I would be able to help them in some way.
Never be afraid to ask for help. At A Ruby, I have been fortunate to be able to attract many talented consultants who help us build the brand, while helping women get dressed effortlessly.
What gets you excited to wake up every day?
I wake up every morning in Marina Bay to our ocean view, looking forward to our morning walk with Rocky, our standard poodle. We also work in Marina Bay, so after a 3 minute commute, I am always up for whatever challenges A Ruby has for the day.
What words of advice do have on confidence?
There is no certainty except for the certainty you have within yourself. That is my daily mantra.
Wow, learning about Avra’s classic style and Marina Bay lifestyle, it’s clear to see where A Ruby gets its inspiration from. I’m excited to see what’s in store for A Ruby, a collection which is simple with a slight moto edge. Check out their full collection at ARuby.net!
