The mini skirt was popularized by British fashion designer Mary Quant in the 1960′s. Although the mini skirt has a short hemline (above the knee), it was actually named after Quant’s favorite car, the Mini. Typically worn by young girls, many women fear wearing the mini skirt. And those that do, take their fashion risk at night.
Why do we women fear wearing the mini skirt during the day (or at all for the matter)? Because it’s considered risque to bare too much skin in public. The thought of glaring looks from women and disturbing catcalls from men have us stopping and turning at our front door for a quick wardrobe change. Let’s be real. We just don’t want to be called “hoochie” or be considered a streetwalker.
But we don’t have to worry about that anymore. You can look cute and stylish in your mini skirt during the day with a few fashion styling tricks. Don’t forget the fail-safe fashion rule that when showing off the lower body (such as the legs) one should cover the upper body (such as the arms). Check out the examples and some more fashion styling suggestions below:
1. Cool Blazer
2. Oversized Sweatshirt
3. Light-Weight Chambray Shirt
4. Bomber Jacket
5. Denim Jacket
6. Opaque Tights
7. Socks & Chunky-Heeled Sandals
8. Rugged Boots
9. Casual Sneakers
Mini skirts are too cute to save for night. Don’t be afraid to pull em out of your dresser and wear it during the day. The trick to wearing it during the day is to offset the “skimpyness” with less revealing pieces such as a cool blazer or opaque tights, or to juxtapose unexpected pieces such as an oversized sweatshirt or rugged boots. Have fun and get creative, but don’t show all your goods and leave a little to the imagination.
So tell me, what do you think of the mini skirt and how do you wear yours?
